Council To Consider Koman Group Request Tied To Grocer

Development issues tied to a Fresh Market grocer, proposed apartments on Creve Coeur's east side and a possible tax cut are on the agenda.

The Creve Coeur City Council Monday night will be asked to override a negative recommendation issued by the Planning and Zoning last week on a proposed code change tied to The Koman Group's interest in bringing a luxury grocer to CityPlace.

As Patch has previously reported, the developer is in discussions with The Fresh Market to bring the North Carolina-based grocer to a spot in front of CityPlace 6. Koman says the grocer prefers a site plan that would have the building set back from Olive Boulevard at a distance greater than allowed by city code, and is asking for an ordinance change that would give City Council flexibility to approve a greater distance.

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted down the measure after city staff opposed the change, saying Koman had other options to rezone the property in question but chose to cater to the interest of a single tenant.

In addition, council will also consider another code change that would allow for greater apartment unit density in certain zoned areas, as more developers have interest in building housing on Old Olive Street Road.

The panel will also hear first reading of a bill that would cut residential utility taxes.

The full Creve Coeur City Council agenda is available on the city's website.
